Samaritans is a UK-based charity dedicated to supporting people who are struggling to cope, including those experiencing emotional distress or having thoughts of suicide. They provide a free, confidential listening service available 24/7, offering a safe space for anyone in need. In addition to their helpline, Samaritans actively campaign for better mental health support and work to prevent suicide through awareness, education, and advocacy initiatives.
24th July (24/7) marks Samaritans Awareness Day, a reminder that Samaritans are there to support anyone, at any time, 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. This annual awareness day encourages open conversations about mental health, promotes the support available, and reminds everyone that help is always just a phone call away.
Kirsty Walpole, Irene Amarante, Tayla Clarke, and Lily Plumb will be taking on the Run Snetterton race on 30th July in support of Samaritans.
Tayla, HR Specialist (Health, Safety & Wellbeing) commented: “As Wellbeing Lead, I’m proud to champion mental health and emotional wellbeing. Our upcoming run is more than just a fitness challenge, it’s a meaningful step toward raising awareness and vital funds for a cause that truly saves lives.”
She continued: “Samaritans offer a lifeline to those in crisis, whether it’s through a phone call, a text, or simply by being there to listen. Their support can make all the difference, and I’m honoured to be part of the charity event that helps ensure they can continue their incredible work.”
Kirsty, Hales Jobs Managing Director – Non-Regulated Recruitment commented: “The Samaritans is a cause very close to our hearts, and we felt it was a perfect fit. When I found out that Irene had an interest in running, I challenged her to book an event to give us a goal to work towards. It was a great way to get everyone involved and motivated. Soon enough, Lily and Tayla joined the initiative, and thus, Team Hales was born!”
Irene, Digital Media and Marketing Manager commented: “As part of my ongoing fitness and wellbeing journey, I’ve set myself the challenge of completing my very first race. And what better way to take on this milestone than by doing it in support of such an important cause and alongside some of my amazing colleagues.”
Lily, Digital Marketing Assistant commented: “I’ve been a runner most of my life, but I took a bit of a break over the past few years. Signing up for this race has given me the push I needed to get back into it and doing it for such an important cause makes it even more worthwhile.”
