During the month of May, Lucy Dimon, Head of People Services at Hales Group, has walked 477,710 steps, to cover the distance to the moon and back, to raise money and awareness for the Roy Castle Lung Cancer Foundation, in memory of her Mum.
The Roy Castle Lung Cancer Foundation is a UK-based charity dedicated to preventing lung cancer through innovative research, raising awareness, and supporting those affected by the disease. The foundation also plays a vital role in introducing essential equipment and treatments, helping to improve outcomes and quality of life for patients across the country.
When asked about why she decided to take on this challenge, Lucy commented: “Lung cancer is the leading cause of cancer deaths. Having lost my Mum to lung cancer in February 2024, I vowed to raise awareness, so others don’t have to go through the heartbreaking journey we did.”
She added: “May is a significant month for me, as not only do I celebrate my 26th birthday on the 1st, but it’s also the beginning of National Walking Month and the month when we honour my wonderful Mum, who would be turning 60. My little girl believes her Naana is now living on the moon, so throughout the month of May, I’ve set a challenge for myself: I’ll be walking to the moon and back! My goal is to raise awareness and support funding for research into this heartbreaking disease, hoping to spare others the pain that our family has endured.”
We wish Lucy luck as she takes on her challenge to walk to the moon and back and for raising money for such an important cause. To learn more about Lucy’s fundraising efforts or to donate, click here.
